Enable Aero With Blur Effect In Windows 8
About two weeks back, we covered about a little tool named WinAeroGlass to enable Aero glass transparency back in Windows 8. While the tool restores the missing Aero glass in window borders, it doesn’t enable the Aero glass with blur effect.
Users who are missing the Aero glass with blur effect in Windows 8 can now enable the same feature with the help of little utility named Aero Glass for Win8 released by an MSFN forum member. The tool uses DWM API and creates Aero Glass transparency with blur effect using Direct 2D and Direct 3D. Complete the below mentioned instructions to enable Aero glass with blur effect in Windows 8.
Instructions to enable Aero glass with blur effect in Windows 8:
Step 1: Open up your Windows 8 installation drive, create a new folder in the root of the drive and then rename it as DWM. For instance, if your Windows 8 installation drive is C, then you need to create the DWM folder in C drive.
Step 2: Download Aero Glass for Win8 utility from here. The utility comes in a 7-Zip archive. Extract the file using 7-Zip, WinZip, WinRAR, or any other software into the DWM folder located in your Windows installation drive. That is, for instance, if your Windows 8 installation drive is C, then you will have to move extracted files to C:\DWM folder.
Step 3: Open up DWM folder and double-click on DWMLoader.exe file to enable Aero glass with blur effect. That’s it!
If you’re experiencing issues while resizing or moving windows, it’s because of debugging checks hardcoded in the app and likely to be fixed in coming releases. We suggest you create a system restore point before running this utility.
